Rohit Sharma is set to have a huge test on his hands during the third Test vs England in Rajkot. Star bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the game and has flown back home. 

The 37-year-old had just completed his 500th Test wicket on Friday when he dismissed Zak Crawley. This made him the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to achieve this landmark. 

Devdutt Padikkal has come out to the field as the substitute fielder. Ashwin’s further participation in the game is still up in the air. According to the rules, India can name a replacement but with the consent of the opposition skipper. 

Ravichandran Ashwin flies back home – 

Indian Cricket Board’s vice-president Rajiv Shukla confirmed that Ravichandran Ashwin has flown back home. The Indian player’s mother is unwell and that is the reason behind the move. 

Taking to Twitter, Rajiv Shukla wished Ashwin’s mother a speedy recovery and also asked for privacy for his family. Rohit Sharma will now have to depend on Jadeja and Kuldeep to do damage with the ball. 

England had ended the second day at 207/2, still trailing by 238 runs with Ben Duckett well past his 100. The flat pitch in Rajkot has seen batters make merry from both sides with oddball misbehaving. 

Joe Root was the first man out on the third day when he was dismissed by Bumrah for the ninth time in Test cricket. The former England skipper went for a reverse scoop as Yashasvi Jaiswal held on to a smart catch. 

Kuldeep Yadav struck the second blow of the day when he had Jonny Bairstow out LBW for a duck. Bairstow played back to a ball that spun in sharply and umpire Kumar Dharmasena took a while before giving it out. The batter used his DRS but it was three reds as India got the fourth wicket. 

According to reports, the participation of Ashwin for the rest of the game. In this case, India will be playing with just 10 players as Ashwin is also a useful batter lower down the order. It is wait and watch for the Indian fans who will want their star bowler back in action soon.
