Fans react as 22-year old Dhruv Jurel played a scintillating knock of 90 runs against England to bring back India into the game. India made 307 in reply to England's 353 runs from a position of 177-7.

India found a new life in the 4th test at Ranchi after 22-year-old Dhruv Jurel played a sensational knock of 90 runs to take India to 307 runs in the first innings in reply to England’s 357. India were reeling at 177 for 7 at one point when Kuldeep Yadav joined Jurel and both of them stitched a 76-run stand for the eighth wicket. 

Kuldeep Yadav showcased his batting skills and along with a tight defence displayed that he can also maneuver the ball to keep the scoreboard ticking. He scored 28 runs off 131 balls before getting played on by James Anderson.

Dhruv Jurel notched up his maiden half-century at the international level and went on to score 90 runs while batting with the tail-enders. His innings included 6 boundaries and 4 clean sixes.  The facet of Jurel’s innings that impressed all those watching the most was the maturity that he showcased in his innings as he batted with the tail-enders during the majority of his innings and the way he manipulated the gaps and picked balls to deposit them out of the ground speaks volumes of the youngsters’ abilities.

Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Dhruv Jurel

India’s veteran opener Sunil Gavaskar was highly impressed with the maturity of the young wicket-keeper batter and even compared his temperament to that of MS Dhoni. Lauding the youngster during commentary, Gavaskar said, “Of course, he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. 

Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer."  

Social Media Reactions

At one point England was looking much ahead of them with Shoaib Bashir wreaking havoc on the Indian batters with his accurate lengths and making use of the conditions on offer very well. But Jurel took the matter into his own hands and played a gritty innings with some clean hitting to bring India back into the game.
