As controversy surrounding England batsman Joe Root's LBW dismissal in the second innings of the fourth Test, former England bowler Steven Finn commended India captain Rohit Sharma and spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for conducting critical reviews. This comes after former England captain Michael Vaughan criticised Hawkeye technology following Root's dismissal. The incident occurred in the 17th over when Ashwin's ball smacked Root on the pads. While the umpire shook his head, Ashwin persuaded Rohit to go for DRS.

In the replay, it showed that the ball was pitched on the leg stump and it was going to hit the stumps. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his frustration on social media.

Meanwhile, Steve Finn who has played 36 Test matches for England felt that the Hawkeye got the decision right, as it pointed out the drift on Ashwin’s delivery.

"An excellent review. From the naked eye to me, it looked like it pitched outside leg stump, but clearly, the drift Ashwin gets means that Root had to depart," Finn said on TNT Sports, the broadcasters for the ongoing series in the UK.

England failed to take advantage

Steve Finn stated that the wicket of Joe Root was a turning point for India and Ashwin's reaction says it all.

"You can sense the intensity in Ashwin's celebration, which demonstrates how important that wicket is to India. Crawley is playing well, but Root was the glue that the England middle order could have relied on," he continued.

Ravichandran Ashwin took a five-wicket haul as England were bowled out of 145 runs on the third day of the ongoing Test match in Ranchi. As India needed 192 runs to win the test match to take the lead of 3-1. As other batters failed to score big runs against spinners Zak Crawley stood and scored 60 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin managed to take 5 wickets and gave 51 runs while Kuldeep Yadav picked four wickets and gave away 22 runs.
