India are all set to take on South Africa in a five-match T20I series starting on the 9th of June. The first match will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The teams have begun their practice sessions ahead of the first match. While the series will be important in the build-up to the 20-20 World Cup in Australia later this year, it will also be important for India to break some records. Here are the records India can create during the T20I series against South Africa.

Most consecutive T20I wins

India is currently on a 12-match winning streak in the shortest format of the game. They are tied with Afghanistan for the most wins in a row in T20I cricket. If they manage to beat South Africa in the first match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, they will surpass Afghanistan to create a new record for most consecutive wins in T20I. This streak started with wins in the group stages in the 20-20 World Cup 2021, followed by whitewashes over New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.

Most wins in T20Is at home

In the shortest format of the game, India have a total of 40 victories at home. They are presently second in the list of most home wins, trailing only New Zealand (41 wins). They will have to win at least two of their five games in the series in order to surpass the Black Caps in terms of Most home wins. The five matches will be played in Delhi, Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Bangalore until the 19th of June.

India's first T20I series victory against South Africa at home

India is one of the strong cricketing nations in the world. Yet, they have never defeated South Africa in a home series. The Proteas won the 2015 series 2-0, while the 2019 series finished in a tie (1-1). India would like to come out on top in this crucial series ahead of the 20-20 World Cup in 2022. Thus, the young Indian side will have a point to prove.
