All franchises of the Indian T20 League are currently busy preparing for the next season. On 15 November 2022, all teams are going to submit their list of retained and released players to the Board. Several reports were there that Mumbai might look to release veteran Kieron Pollard ahead of the next season.
However, on the same day, Pollard announced his retirement from the Indian T20 League. He also announced that Pollard will be the batting coach for the franchise. However, he will play in the upcoming UAE T20 League. So, ahead of the next season, Mumbai might look to some players to replace this West Indian in their squad.
Here are three players who can replace Kieron Pollard in the Mumbai franchise in the Indian T20 League 2023:
1. Sam Curran
This all-rounder from England can be an ideal replacement for Kieron Pollard. Sam Curran impressed everyone with his contribution to England’s 20-20 World Cup-winning campaign in 2022. He won the player of the tournament award as Curran picked 13 wickets in six matches, at an economy of 6.52.
In the final against Pakistan, Curran took three wickets for 12 runs in his four overs. So, ahead of the next edition of the Indian T20 League, he will be a good addition to a team like Mumbai. With his abilities with both the bat and the ball, Curran can be a great replacement for the West Indian all-rounder.
2. Ben Stokes
Another all-rounder from England, Ben Stokes can be another option to replace Kieron Pollard. This player has shown great form with the bat for England in the recently concluded 20-20 World Cup. In the final against Pakistan, he scored 52* runs off 49 balls, including five fours and one six.
In the last group-stage game against Sri Lanka, he scored a vital 42* run and helped England to get qualified for the semi-final. Due to his game-finishing abilities with the bat, Ben Stokes will be one of the frontrunners to replace Pollard. Stokes has already established himself in the Indian T20 League for franchises like Rajasthan.
3. Cameron Green
This star all-rounder from Australia can replace Kieron Pollard in Mumbai. In the three-match T20I series in India, he became the highest scorer with 118 runs. Cameron Green scored those runs at an average of 39.33 but with a staggering strike rate of 214.54. In the last match of the series, he scored the fastest fifty against India (19 balls).
Green has also shown great ability with the ball for his country. So, all-round ability of this player can make him a great addition to the Mumbai franchise. Along with young players like Dewald Brevis, and Tristan Stubbs, Green can help this team to fulfill the void of Pollard ahead of the next season.
