All franchises of the Indian T20 League are gearing up for the mini-auction in Kochi on 23 December 2022. All teams submitted their released and retained players list on 15 December. However, another franchise T20 League named SAT20 will kick off on 10 January 2023. Mumbai have its own team in that league also that will represent Cape Town.
Already, they have built a strong squad for that league. Players like Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Sam Curran are a part of the team. But, there are some players who can become a vital addition to the squad of their in the Indian T20 League. Here are the three players from Mumbai Capetown whom the Mumbai franchise can target for the Indian T20 League 2023:
Sam Curran
This star all-rounder impressed everyone with his performance for England in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He is a part of Mumbai’s Cape Town franchise. Sam Curran’s contributions were instrumental which helped England to win that title. He won the player of the tournament award as Curran picked 13 wickets in six matches, at an economy of 6.52.
In the final against Pakistan, Curran took three wickets for 12 runs in his four overs. Moreover, Kieron Pollard took retirement from the Indian T20 League. So, Sam Curran can be a perfect replacement for the veteran all-rounder in Mumbai. Curran’s base price is 2 Crores for the next edition of this tournament. His bowling and batting abilities down the order can make a difference for Mumbai.
Rassie van Der Dussen
This South African batter can be a player whom Mumbai might look to take for the next season of the Indian T20 League. This batter missed the 20-20 World Cup 2022 due to an injury. Last year, Rassie van Der Dussen represented the Rajasthan franchise and got very limited opportunities. Now, ahead of the season, they released him.
However, he is a part of Mumbai’s Cape Town franchise. Rassie’s base price is 2 Crores for the next edition of this tournament. In the last edition, he scored only 22 runs in three matches, at an average of 11. But, for the Proteas, he has shown his class with the bat in white-ball formats. He has played 32 ODI innings where he has scored 1525 runs, at an average of 69.31. Meanwhile, Rassie has played 37 T20I innings where he has scored 1044 runs, at an average of 36.
Odean Smith
This West Indies all-rounder can be another option that Mumbai can target for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. He is also a part of Mumbai’s Cape Town franchise. Odean Smith played for the Punjab franchise last year. He scored 51 runs in six innings, at an average of 17 with the bat while he picked up only six wickets in six matches with the ball.
However, Punjab already released this all-rounder ahead of the next season. In the recently concluded Caribbean Premier League, he managed to hit 5 sixes in a single over for Guyana Amazon Warriors. So, his brutal hitting abilities with bowling can make Mumbai interested in him for the next edition. Smith’s base price is 50 Lakhs for the next edition of this tournament.
