The fans of the Indian T20 League might witness the old days coming back from the 2023 season of the tournament. From 2008 to 2019, teams used to play each other twice (once at home and once away). In 2020, COVID-19 forced the Indian Cricket Board to stage the tournament within three venues in the UAE. In 2021, the tournament was played in India and the UAE.
This year, the omicron variant of COVID-19 forced the board to stage the league stage of the tournament across four venues in Maharashtra. The playoffs were played in Kolkata and Ahmedabad. Now, the impact of the deadly disease is almost none. This is why the board is reportedly looking forward to bringing back the old format of the cash-rich league. This means that the teams will now be able to play at their home venues.
"The next season of men's IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all the 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues," Ganguly wrote in an email to all state associations, reported by the Times of India.
