Former Indian Test specialist and current head of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman is set to take over the role of Team India’s head coach in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. The second-string Team India will play under the captaincy of the young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad as the squad has already been announced for the continental tournament.

Recently, VVS Laxman was rested from the three-match T20I series against Ireland, where Team India played under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah. The Men in Blue won the series by a margin of 2-0 as the third match was called off due to the rain without a bowl bowled.

Currently, the full-strength Team India is set to be a part of the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, in which they will start their campaign against the arch-rivals, Pakistan on Saturday, the 2nd of September. The team will be playing under the captaincy of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. Star batters, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have also made their comeback in the Indian squad after a long break due to their respective injuries.
