In a major blow to CSK’s IPL 2024 chances, their premier opening batter Devon Conway has reportedly withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the IPL. Devon Conway suffered a thumb injury during a T20I match against Australia last Friday because of which he has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia which to set to commence on 29th February.
His participation in the subsequent Test matches is also uncertain because of the injury. Though Conway is expected to recover from the thumb injury by the time of the IPL, the New Zealand Cricket Board wants him fit and fresh for the upcoming T20 World Cup which is just a week after the IPL and that’s why he has reportedly pulled out of IPL 2024.
The southpaw played a pivotal role in CSK's championship triumph last season, contributing 672 runs, and even received the Player of the Match award in the final against Gujarat Titans. If Conway has indeed withdrawn from this season, CSK faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement to fill his significant role.
CSK’s Injury woes before IPL 2024
CSK have a major headache before IPL 2024 as some of their key players are suffering from injuries and if they aren’t able to take part in the tournament then it could derail their campaign.
Recently, Daryl Mitchell who was one of CSK’s prominent signing in this year’s IPL was sidelined for the T20I series due to a foot injury. However, he is expected to recover from the injury for the Test series against Australia but it remains to be seen how he fares after an injury break.
Apart from him, all-rounder Shivam Dubey is also currently out of the Mumbai Ranji squad due to a side strain injury that he sustained while batting during the Ranji Trophy match against Assam. He is set to miss the first few matches of the IPL. Conway's injury adds him to the roster of injured Chennai Super Kings players, alongside Mustafizur Rahman, Shivam Dubey, and Daryl Mitchell.
