Team India are currently preparing for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. The series will kick off on 10 January 2023 in Guwahati, Assam. After winning the three-match T20I series, it will be another opportunity for the Men in Blue to win another series at home. However, all big-name players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be back in action.

However, Jasprit Bumrah had a forgettable end to the 2022 year as he missed major tournaments like the 20-20 World Cup and Asia Cup. But, the Board announced on 3 January that he will be available for the ODI series against the Lankans. But, on 9 January, they updated that he will not be available for this upcoming series.

“It’s very unfortunate for him.” - Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah

The official statement from the Board reads: “Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah, who was set to join the team in Guwahati ahead of the ODI series, will need some more time to build bowling resilience. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has not named any replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. India play their first ODI against Sri Lanka on 10th January in Guwahati.” Regarding his absence, Rohit Sharma also opened up in the pre-match press conference.

He said: “It’s very unfortunate for him. The poor guy has been working really hard at the NCA for all this time. Just when he got back, he had full fitness, he started bowling and everything. In the last two days, I think this incident happened when he felt a little bit of stiffness in his back. It’s nothing major, it’s just stiffness. And when Bumrah says anything, we have to be very cautious about it and that is what we did.” But, now reports are coming out that not only this series, but he is also going to miss the next Nee Zealand series entirely and the first two Test matches against the Aussies. So, fans went crazy after hearing such reports about the pacer.
