West Indies, the two-time World Cup winners, have been eliminated from the race to represent the Caribbean nation at the World Cup 2023 in India, which will take place later this year. This occurred after Scotland defeated their counterparts by seven wickets during their Super Six match on July 1 in Harare. After losing to Zimbabwe and the Netherlands during their group stage games, it was WI's third straight defeat in the competition.

WI currently has no points within the World Cup Qualifying Super Six, according to the points table. Since both of those teams were eliminated from the Super Six, their four points for victory in the group stage over the United States, as well as Nepal, were not recorded.

On the other side, Sri Lanka, as well as Zimbabwe, have already accrued six points. Even if West Indies wins the two games they have left versus Oman and Sri Lanka, they can only accumulate a total of four points. This meant that the West Indies’ ticket to India was cancelled after their elimination.

How did the match between Scotland and West Indies pan out?

West Indies batted first and were dismissed for 181 after just 43.5 overs and it was surely a poor batting display from the Caribbean outfit. Scotland’s most lethal bowler turned out to be Brandon McMullen, who finished with a score of 3/32. Mark Watt, Chris Greaves, and Chris Sole all made significant contributions with a couple of wickets each. One was also scalped by Safyaan Sharif. Romario Shepherd and Jason Holder were the only ones who played some important knocks as they added 36 and 45 respectively to help WI reach a mediocre but fighting total.

Jason Holder responded by giving WI the ideal start by removing Christopher McBride for zero. The match-winning 125-run stand between Mathew Cross and Brandon McMullen for the second wicket followed. Cross continued his perfect record with 74 (107), whereas McMullen added 69 (106).

One wicket each was taken by Jason Holder, Romario Shephard, as well as Akeal Hosein were the only highlights for the West Indies. Shai Hope, the captain of the West Indies, was disappointed as usual when his team was eliminated from the 2023 ODI World Cup. The West Indies are not going to be participating in the main competition of a cricket world cup for the second time in a row, as they were not successful in qualifying for the T20 World Cup last October after losing in the preliminary round.
