The focus of fan debates on current cricket has changed from who among the Fab Four was the finest hitter to who among Virat Kohli and Babar Azam was the better player. Babar has been steadily improving over the past few years, both as a skipper and more as a player across forms, giving the world of cricket the Kohli vibes due to his dependability and capacity to set and shatter records. Imran Khan, a former captain of Pakistan, made an outrageous statement about Babar before the 2023 ODI World Cup, although the issue continues to split the cricket world.

Speaking to a local journalist, the Pakistan legend admitted that although he has been away from sports for some time, he thinks Kohli and Babar are in the same league as batters and that, based on what he has seen of the current Pakistan captain, the youngster can break the 33-year-old's batting records. "I haven't recently seen cricket, but I believe that Virat Kohli and Babar Azam belong to the same class. Babar Azam can surpass Virat Kohli; he is that good, from what I have seen," Imran Khan said.

‘He was always keen to learn’ – Virat Kohli on Babar Azam

Despite playing in different parts of the globe of cricket, the two legends have a strong bond off the pitch. Babar's social media gesture last year to assist Kohli during his batting slump notably demonstrated this. Later, during the Asia Cup the previous year, Kohli gushed over the 28-year-old in an interview. He stated:  "Babar is a very nice guy. I have always had good conversations with him. I am not sure about kinship since he is much younger to me, but there is respect. There is always respect."

He talked about his first encounter with Babar, which happened at the 2019 World Cup in England, during that interview. "He was always keen to learn. He spoke to me after our game in the 2019 World Cup. I have always said he is keen to learn, and there’s no surprise that he is playing like this in all formats of the game. He is obviously a very talented player," Kohli added.
