Yashasvi Jaiswal

The young Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal made his sensational Test debut in the recently-concluded two-match Test series against West Indies. He smashed 266 runs in three innings of the two Tests with an excellent average of 88.86. He also scored a century and a half-century with the wood to start his red-ball career style.

A lot of former cricketers and experts praised Yashasvi for his brilliant intent on his debut tour. But still, the former legendary Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar came up with quite a realistic approach while analyzing the young batter’s outing in the second Test against West Indies.

"Virat Kohli celebrated his 500th international appearance with a century. After seeing the first few deliveries it was apparent there was no devil in the pitch and a batter had to be overconfident or complacent to miss out on a hundred. Jaiswal lost patience and reached out to a widish half-volley and was caught at deepish backward point and Rohit didn't quite go to the pitch of the ball to be bowled," wrote Gavaskar in his column for Mid-Day.

Meanwhile, Gavaskar also wrote about the three high-octane bilateral Test clashes in the cricketing world. In this analysis, he was quite critical of West Indies vs India. Whereas, he appreciated the level of cricket in the England vs Australia and Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Test series.

"Though Pakistan are the better-balanced team, the Lankans are fighting it out and not giving up till the last ball is bowled. In England too, the series is taking an interesting turn with England at the end of the third day's play showing why they are a different team than the one that donned the colors two years back," wrote Gavaskar.

"In Trinidad though it looked so one-sided that there are barely a few hundred people at the ground to support the home team the West Indies. Most of those are Indians living overseas who have come to see their favourite Team India. They were not disappointed as they saw a good opening stand between skipper Rohit Sharma and newcomer Yashasvi Jaiswal,” he added later.
