Amid all the talks regarding the fitness of India’s premier fast bowler, the Indian Cricket Board hasn’t given any update on the issue so far. Seamer Mohammed Siraj has been added to the Indian squad for the T20I series against South Africa after Bumrah missed out on the first T20I due to a back injury.

The Indian Cricket Board gave the last update on Bumrah on Wednesday when he missed the first T20I. The board tweeted, “Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I.”

A shocking report by PTI on Thursday sent shockwaves down the Indian cricket fans which said that Bumrah has sustained a stress fracture which could keep him out of cricket for months.

An Indian Cricket Board official told PTI that Bumrah has a stress fracture and could be out of action for months. “Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months,” a senior Indian Cricket Board official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The report spread like wildfire and all media houses reported that the 28-year-old will not take part in the 20-20 World Cup. It will be interesting to see who replaces India’s pace spearhead in the squad if he actually misses out. Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are in contention to replace the ‘yorker-king'.
