Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah finally broke his silence on the infamous incident in Dhaka ODI between India Women and Bangladesh Women, involving skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Earlier, the Cricket Governing Body suspended Kaur after she was found breaching the code of conduct. Notably, there were few instances in the match when the Indian captain expressed her disappointment and frustration over the match officials in the public sphere.
The first incident occurred in the Indian innings when Harmanpreet Kaur smashed the stumps with her bat after being given LBW out by the on-field umpire. Later, she publicly criticized the umpiring standards during the post-match presentation.
“A lot of learning from this game. Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we'll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we'll have to prepare ourselves,” said Kaur during the post-match presentation.
Roger Binny and VVS Laxman to have deliberation with Harmanpreet Kaur
Speaking of Jay Shah’s announcement in the same regard, he stated that the Indian Cricket Board chief Roger Binny and the head of National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman will look into the matter. Both the former Indian cricketing legends will counsel Harmanpreet Kaur in the coming weeks as per the directions given by the Board.
Returning to Harmanpreet’s Dhaka outburst, she went a step ahead and called the umpiring standards ‘pathetic’ during the post-match ceremony. Apart from that, she also mocked the Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty during the joint photo session of both teams after the third ODI ended in a tie. Nigar complained in the post-match presser that Harmanpreet asked her to call the umpires too during the photo session, blaming them for playing a crucial role for Bangladesh.
"They <Bangladesh> batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between, we leaked a few runs but when we were batting, we controlled the game very well. But, as I mentioned earlier, some pathetic umpiring was done, and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” said Kaur during the post-match presentation before the photo shoot of both teams.
