The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to be played in India and is almost only three months away, but the stance on Pakistan’s participation still remains unclear. The matter is yet to be resolved in the country and there are more meetings scheduled to take place to seek a resolution ahead of the mega tournament. It all started when India first refused to travel to Pakistan to play in the Asia Cup 2023.
In a recent piece of news, the media reports learned that the committee appointed by PM Shahbaz Sharif is set to meet in a high-profile meeting. The committee will include Sports Minister Ahsan Mazari, Maryam Aurangzeb, Asad Mahmood, Amin ul Haq, Qamar Zaman Kaira, and Tariq Fatmi, an ex-diplomat.
“The committee, headed by Pakistan's Foreign Minister, is expected to ask the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the hosts, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), to permit a security delegation to visit the venues, where Pakistan team will play,” reads a report by Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, a top official of the Pakistan Cricket Board also spoke on the same concern to clear the stance of Pakistan on their participation in the ODI World Cup 2023. "A high-profile meeting will decide on the World Cup participation," said a PCB official to Cricbuzz.
Indian Cricket Board and Cricket Governing Body likely to change schedule
Meanwhile, the Indian Cricket Board and cricket’s governing are reportedly working in the process of changing the schedule of the tournament.” Pakistan board has been informed by the BCCI about a possible change in the schedule of a couple of games for its team, one of them being the big game against India,” said the sources in Pakistan Cricket Board.
Meanwhile, the high-octane World Cup clash between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan is also likely to be shifted and preponed to 14th October 2023 from 15th October 2023. Indian Cricket Board decided to make this move as the date of the match was clashing with the first day of the Navratri festival.
Returning back to the high-level meeting of the committee appointed by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, this news also came up as an opportunity for some cricket fans to troll Pakistan brutally on Twitter. Fans also reacted with the opinions like things are not going to be affected even if Pakistan don’t come and play in India.
Here's how fans reacted:
