Calling the first T20I between India and South Africa an unusual one would be a massive understatement. In a format, where runs are supposed to flow off the bat, the Indian bowlers troubled the visitors from the word get-go and turned the game on its head.

After having been invited to put runs on the board, the South Africa team stumbled from the first over itself. A sensational Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh put South Africa to the sword and got them lingering at 9/5 in 2.3 overs.

Aiden Markram halted the fall of wickets from one side with his cautious 25 off of 24. The other side however continued to give way. It was the vice-captain Keshav Maharaj (41) who took South Africa past 100 runs and gave something to the bowlers.

Arshdeep Singh was the pick of the bowlers from the India side as he took three wickets and announced his return to the team after seeing off the Australia series with an injury scare. Chahar also came good with the ball as he took two wickets and laid a claim to India's bowling spot.

Coming onto chase 106, India got off to a poor start as the ball continued to swing in the second innings as well. Captain Rohit Sharma was out on duck and Virat Kohli followed soon on three runs.

KL Rahul (51) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) however took charge of the chase and eventually brought India safely across the finish line. The hosts won the match in 16.4 overs after a troubled start and lead the three-match T20I series by 1-0.
