Kolkata Knight Riders handed the Royal Challengers Bangalore their first defeat in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League 2023. Both teams played this ninth match of the tournament at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday, the 6th of April. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to bowl first.
Batting first, KKR posted a big total of 204 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs. While the Royal Challengers choked against the bowling attack of the visitors while chasing the target. Talking about the entire action of the match, KKR opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a crucial and impressive knock of 57 runs off 44 balls with six boundaries and three sixes to his name. Other than him, Shardul Thakur also played a swashbuckling knock of 68 runs off just 29 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes with the wood.
On the back of these knocks, the hosts managed to pile up a big total of 204 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the first 20 overs of the match. David Willey and Karn Sharma scalped two wickets each alongside one wicket each by Mohammed Siraj, Michael Bracewell, and Harshal Patel.
While defending the target, the KKR spinner came as a nightmare for the visitors’ batting lineup and scalped nine out of their all 10 wickets. The spin trio of Sunil Narine, Suyash Sharma, and Varun Chakravarthy bundled up the RCB only the score of 123 runs in 17.4 overs.
Eventually, Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by a massive margin of 81 runs having Shardul Thakur as ‘the Player of the Match for his match-defining all-round performance in favor of KKR.
