In a shocking announcement, the star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is set to retire from Test cricket. Notably, the leggie has played only 4 Tests for Sri Lanka; in these matches, he has scalped 4 wickets with the ball and scored 196 runs in seven innings including a half-century with the bat.

He made his first appearance for Sri Lanka in the longest format of the game during the Centurion Test against South Africa on the 26th of December 2020. Hasaranga could play only four months and his last red-ball appearance was against Bangladesh in the Pallekele Test on the 21st of April 2021.

Since then, he has been active in white-ball cricket and impressed everyone with his heroic performances in the T20I and ODI cricket. He was one of the star performers for Sri Lanka ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers and played a crucial role in the side’s qualification to the 16th edition of the marquee international tournament.

Speaking of his numbers in white-ball cricket, Hasaranga has played 48 ODIs and 58 T20Is since his international debut six years back in the year 2017. In these appearances, he has claimed 67 ODI wickets, alongside 91 T20I wickets with the ball including 3 five-wicket hauls in ODI and 2 four-wicket hauls in T20I career.

Apart from this, the 26-year-old has also scored 4 half-centuries with the bat in the ODIs including one half-century in the shortest format of the game.

Now, he will be in action with the national side of Sri Lanka in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Sri Lanka have been placed with Afghanistan and Bangladesh in Group B of the continental tournament. The 16th edition of the coveted tournament will be hosted jointly by Pakistan and Sri Lanka this time. 4 matches including the tournament opener will be played in Pakistan and the rest of the matches will be played in Sri Lanka.
