On 9 October 2022, India locked horns with South Africa in Ranchi for the second ODI. After losing the first game, India were looking to equalize the series. While the Proteas were looking to seal the series with one more match to go. Speaking of this match, both teams made some changes in their playing XIs from the last match.

India brought in Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed in place of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi in their playing XI. On the other hand, Temba Bavuma and Tabraiz Shamsi did not find a place as Bjorn Fortuin and Reeza Hendricks came into the playing XI. Stand-in skipper, Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first.

Shreyas Iyer scored 113* runs off 111 balls against South Africa in the second ODI

While batting first, South Africa scored 278 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Reeza Hendricks scored 74 runs off 76 balls, including nine fours and one six. Along with him, Aiden Markram also smashed 79 runs off 89 balls, including seven fours and one six. Klassen also scored 30 runs off 26 balls along with Millerโ€™s 36* runs. For India, Mohammed Siraj grabbed three wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs. In reply, India dealt some early blows as they lost both openers within 10 overs.ย 

Then, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer put up a partnership of 161 runs. Ishan Kisan missed his first-ever century by seven runs as he lost his wicket on 93 runs off 84 balls. He hit four boundaries and seven sixes. But, Iyer remained not out and ensured Indiaโ€™svictory. Iyer scored 113* runs off 111 balls, including 15 fours. In this match, the star Indian batter notched up his second ODI ton. Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike rate of 101.80. His inning helped India to defeat the Proteas by seven wickets.
