In the World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval versus Australia, Virat Kohli played poorly. He attended that match after playing well for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2023. Ha, however, fell short of fan expectations by failing to score significant runs in both innings of the last Test.

Other Team India batsmen, though, too fell short of scoring much. Thus, the Men in Blue suffered a crushing 209-run defeat in the final game. In July and August, India will go on a comprehensive tour of the West Indies. The team is anticipated to include Kohli. However, he recently posted a mysterious motivating statement to his Instagram account.

‘You should ask Kohli what shot he played’ – Sunil Gavaskar on Virat Kohli’s dismissal in WTC final

In that post, it was written: “The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.” Fans commented on the post after seeing it on social media. Speaking of Kohli, despite having strong starts in both innings, he was unable to capitalise on them. In the first inning, Mitchell Starc's unexpected bouncer caught Kohli off guard because it bounced higher than he had anticipated. However, he scored 49 runs in the second inning and, when attempting a drive, was caught in the off-stump corridor. He stole the ball, and Steve Smith made a spectacular catch to get rid of him.

Sunil Gavaskar, however, was dissatisfied with the decision to take that shot on that delivery and in the overall context of the game. He said the following to Star Sports: “It was a bad shot. It was an ordinary shot. You are asking me how he <Boland> did that – but you should ask Kohli what shot he played. That was a shot outside the off-stump. We talk so much about the fact that when you are going to win a match, you need a long innings, a century-plus innings. How are you going to get a century-plus innings, when you play a shot that is so far outside the off stump? He was batting on 49, and nearing a landmark. I don’t think Virat Kohli would have played that shot if he wasn’t near a personal landmark.”
