India opening batter Shubman Gill has latched onto the opportunity he has gotten in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. In the ongoing fourth Test, he has become the second Indian to score a hundred in the series. Before him, India skipper Rohit Sharma scored a hundred on a difficult wicket in Nagpur. Meanwhile, the pitch for the fourth Test in Ahmedabad has been the flattest in the series.
After winning the toss, the Steve Smith-led side amassed 480 all-out. The likes of Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green scored a hundred. On the other hand, Nathan Lyon and Tood Murphy helped the team reach 480 after the team had lost eight wickets for 400-odd runs. For India, Ravichandran Ashwin took a six-wicket haul. At this point, the home team needed a great start with the bat.
In reply, the India openers, skipper Rohit Sharma and Gill put together 74 runs. However, when the former looked like getting big runs on a flat wicket, he was caught at short covers as he chipped the ball. On the other hand, Gill managed to get past the double-digit mark and is not out before the Tea break was taken.
With him, former India skipper Virat Kohli is batting as Cheteshwar Pujara was trapped lbw as he missed the straight ball from todd Murphy. Both Pujara and Gill added 113 runs for the second wicket. At the time of writing, India has scored 188/2 with Gill batting on 103. On the other hand, Kohli is yet to open his account.
Shubman Gill has scored his second Test hundred
Meanwhile, this is Gill's second Test hundred. His first came in the first Test against Bangladesh last December. In the first two games of the ongoing series, the 2018 U19 World Cup winner was warming the bench. Out of form, KL Rahul was opening the batting with Sharma. However, for the Indore Test, the team decided to replace Rahul with Gill.
