Star Indian batting sensation and World number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav is finding it very hard to crack the code of the ODI format. It is being said because he recently had a very horrible run with the bat in the recently-concluded three-match ODI series against Australia. The 32-year-old couldn’t even get off the mark in all three matches of the entire series.
SKY registered a record of three consecutive golden ducks; a record that he never wanted to be written to his name. Meanwhile, a lot of cricket fans and a few experts questioned the potential of Suryakumar in the 50-over format.
But apart from all this, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has backed his teammate and felt that it’s a phase that every player at least once in his cricketing career.
"Surya played only 3 balls in this series, I don't know how to look into it, he plays spin well, we have seen that in the last few years, these kind of series happen to anyone - potential & ability is there but going through that phase of career,” said Rohit in a press conference following India’s defeat in the third ODI against Australia.
“That can happen to anyone” – Rohit Sharma on Suryakumar Yadav
“He plays spin so well, which is why we wanted to hold him back and give him that role of last 15-20 overs. But it’s really unfortunate that he could only play three balls in the series. That can happen to anyone. The potential and the quality are always there. He’s just going through that phase right now,” he added later.
Although this statement from the skipper himself didn’t go down well with a section of the Indian cricket fans who were not happy over giving continuous chances to Surykumar Yadav even after the failures. They immediately took to Twitter to lash out at Rohit Sharma and questioned him for not backing a few other players like Sanju Samson in the similar way he is doing for SKY.

Seriously a wrong statement.Surya is definitely a class player, but had Sanju and Rutu had this kind of backing?Or they had provided as many continuous chances as Surya? He's a T20 specialist agreed, but that's not the criteria to give continuous chances in ODI even when he fails.

Chances are very slim for India to win world cup, in middle order and lower order we need attacking batsman who can be handy with the ball.
