The uncertainty around Asia Cup 2023 continues to go on and on without a speck of clarity on the mega event. Both India and Pakistan have shown concerns about the tournament wherein the Indian Cricket Board has outright declined to travel to Pakistan for the event.
Citing security concerns the Indian Cricket Board has rejected the hosts Pakistan's pleading for the Asia Cup 2023. Jay Shah and the board has spoken in favour of moving the tournament to Dubai or another neutral venue which would allow Indian players to travel and take part in the Asia Cup 2023. The back and forth between the two nations have gone on for months now with no end in sight.
To clear the issue and make way for a successful Asia Cup 2023 with India as a participant, PCB came up with a new plan. This plan would allow India to play at venues other than Pakistan and a similar model for other teams were announced. In a shock to this model and PCB, three teams namely Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have rejected this hybrid model.
All these nations have cited travel and logistics as a big factor is their refusal to play under this hybrid model. Since these nations work under stringent financial regulations, it doesn't allow them to fly to different locations for their matches.
A well-informed source said, "It is just a formality now that the Asian Cricket Council executive board members meet virtually or a proper meeting is called later this month. But the PCB is now aware that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are not backing their hybrid model proposal for the Asia Cup."
Here's how Twitter reacted to this news:
