On 7 December 2022, team India took on Bangladesh in the second match of the ongoing three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. India lost the first match to the home side by one wicket. So, the Men in Blue were looking for a win to keep them alive in the series. On the other hand, Bangladesh were looking to seal the series by winning it.

Speaking about the match, Bangladesh’s skipper Litton Das won the toss and asked India to field first. However, India made some changes as Axar Patel and Umran Malik came into the playing XI. For Bangladesh, Najmul Hossain Shanto and skipper Litton Das came out to open the innings.

However, Indian bowlers were on a roll as Bangladesh lost six wickets for 69 runs in 19 overs. But, then, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahmudullah put up a partnership of 148 runs. Mahmudullah scored 77 runs off 96 balls, including seven fours. But, Bangladesh’s last match hero, Mehidy managed to score his maiden ODI ton as Bangladesh finished on 271 runs for seven wickets in 50 overs. Mehidy scored 100* runs off 83 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. For India, Washington Sundar took three wickets for 37 runs in 10 overs. Apart from him, Umran Malik and Mohammed Siraj also took two wickets each.

However, while fielding, Rohit Sharma got injured and left the field. So, KL Rahul became the stand-in captain. Hence, in absence of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan came out to open the innings. But, India were struggling after losing two wickets for 13 runs in 2.5 overs. Then, Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs off 102 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Axar Patel also scored 56 runs off 56 balls, including two fours and three sixes. But, after the eighth wicket, Rohit Sharma showed great courage and came out to bat despite the injury. He fought till the last ball but India lost the match by five runs.
