Madhya Pradesh beat Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2021-22 final by six wickets to register a historic win on Sunday. With this, the Aditya Srivastava-led team became the first one to win the Ranji Trophy title for Madhya Pradesh.ย A brilliant batting display in their first innings set up the game perfectly for Madhya Pradesh. They followed it up with a brilliant bowling effort before chasing down the target of 108 runs.

Batting first, Mumbai had a good start with Prithvi Shaw (47) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (78) forming a solid partnership of 87. However, they lost a few wickets in quick succession after that. Sarfaraz Khan then walked in and played a brilliant knock. He held his ground, whereas other batters failed to capitalize on their opportunities. He scored a quick century to help the team to a good total. The 24-year-old scored 134 runs in Mumbai's total of 374 runs.

In Madhya Pradesh's first innings, the Mumbai bowlers had a very ordinary performance. They were unable to put any pressure on the opposition. As a result, the batters were able to notch big partnerships. Yash Dube(133), Shubham Sharma (116), and Rajat Patidar (122) all scored centuries in the innings to put Madhya Pradesh in a great position. The wicket also provided them with good assistance. Towards the end, Madhya Pradesh lost quick wickets but still managed a score of 536 runs. They had a lead of 162 runs.

In the next innings, Mumbai had another ordinary performance with the bat. They were not able to score big runs. Suved Parkar (51) scored a century, while there were some short cameos from Shaw (44) and Sarfaraz Khan (45).

They managed 269 runs in the second innings, setting a target of 108 for Madhya Pradesh to chase down. Kumar Kartikeya was the pick of the bowlers in the second innings as he took a four-wicket haul with some assistance from the track that had now slowed down.

The Aditya Srivastava-led team lost a few early wickets while chasing the target on the last day, but Patidar held firm in the end. He took his time but completed the game in the 30th over of the innings with a session to spare.
