Shubman Gill has become one of the finest batters of this time with his fantastic batting abilities, especially in the ODI format. In 2022, he showed his class in this format in the ODI series in West Indies and Zimbabwe. However, some fans raised questions when Rohit Sharma confirmed that Gill will be his opening partner before the home ODI series against Sri Lanka. 

But, he proved his critics wrong as Shubman Gill became the second-highest run-scorer in the series. He scored 207 runs in three innings against the Lankans, at an average of 69. Gill also scored a fifty and a century.

So, fans were hoping for another great series from this batter against the Kiwis. Gill did not disappoint once again as he scored his maiden double-century in the first ODI in Hyderabad. Shubman Gill scored 208 runs off 149 balls, including 19 fours and nine sixes. Then, he scored a solid 40* runs off 53 balls, including six fours while chasing just 109 runs. So, all eyes were on Gill once again when team India took on the Kiwis in Indore on 24 January  2023.

Tom Latham won the toss and elected to bowl first. Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. They gave another solid start as the first wicket fell on 212 runs in 26.1 overs. Rohit Sharma scored 101 runs off 85 balls, including nine fours and six over-boundaries. But, Shubman showed his class again as he scored 112 runs off 78 balls, including 13 fours and five sixes. It was his third 100+ runs knock in his last four innings. So, fans went crazy after seeing another hundred from this star young batter in the clash. After this inning, Gill scored 360 runs in three innings, at an average of 180 and a strike rate of 128.27. He broke the record for scoring the most runs in a three-match bilateral series by an Indian.
