Delhi won their first match of the Indian T20 league 2022 by four wickets. It was an absolute thriller as their lower-middle order took Mumbai's bowlers to the cleaners and ensured that their side start their campaign with a win. It is to be noted that Delhi were missing several of their overseas players as most of them weren't available due to international commitments.
One among them happened to be Mitchell Marsh, who was slated to participate in the ODI series between Australia and Pakistan. However, the Aussie recently suffered a hip injury and is likely to be ruled out of the three-match ODI series against the Asian nation. This puts a huge question mark over his participation in the 2022 edition of the cash-rich league as well.
This isn't the first time that Marsh has suffered an injury during the time of the Indian T20 league as there have been numerous occasions where the all-rounder has had to miss this league due to one injury or the other.
In the meanwhile, Aaron Finch recently said that the batting all-rounder might not feature in the ODI series against Pakistan. He drew light on Marsh's injury.
"I don't think he'll be available for this series based on how he was feeling yesterday. He sustained that yesterday in a fielding drill. It was a high intensity, lateral movement drill. He bent down to pick it up one-handed and went to throw and felt a twinge in his hip flexor," said Aaron Finch, as quoted by Cricket.com.au.
If Marsh does indeed miss this series, then he will join the long list of players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Steve Smith and David Warner who won't be available for the limited-overs games against the Babar Azam-led side. Earlier, Smith was ruled out due to an elbow injury as well.
As far as his participation in the Indian T20 league 2022 is concerned, there hasn't been any official statements on the same. However, Delhi fans would be hopeful of him coming to India for the 2022 edition. The Delhi-based franchise purchased him for a whopping amount of INR 6.50 crore.
