Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings locked horns in the 33rd match of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League 2023. The hosts’ skipper Nitish Rana won the flip of the coin and decided to bowl first at the mixed-supportive turf of Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Batting first, CSK went on to put in a big total of 235 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Later on, KKR fell short of the target and couldn’t cross the line which eventually resulted in losing the match by a margin of 49 runs. The KKR have lost their fifth match in the tournament out of the seventh match they played against CSK in the home ground at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni’s CSK have made it to the top spot of the points table of the tournament with five wins in the seven matches they played so far including two defeats as well and 10 points. The fans were also elated and ecstatic following the win of yellow outfits by a big margin to move to number one in the points table. Talking about the action of the match, the veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane smashed a swashbuckling knock of 71 runs off just 29 balls with six boundaries and five sixes to his name. Other than him, star CSK opener Devon Conway also scored 56 runs with four boundaries and three sixes on his credit followed by Shivam Dube’s 50 runs off just 21 balls with two boundaries and five sixes.
These knocks helped Chennai Super Kings to reach a total of 235 runs for the loss of four wickets in the first 20 overs of the game.
While chasing the target, KKR could score only 186 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the entire 20 overs. Jason Roy and Rinku Singh played knocks of 61 and 53 runs respectively but their knocks went in vain as the Knight Riders lost the match by 49 runs.
