Recently, Nitin Menon was featured in an interview where the Indian umpire pointed out that officiating in recent times have become a lot these days. The hardest job in the cricket industry may be umpiring in India or a game featuring the Indian team. And it all comes down to the simple fact that more people are watching this cricket match than any other. Additionally, in the era of social media, even a minor mistake can result in widespread criticism. However, Nitin Menon doesn't define that as pressure.
While saying that the constant strain placed on him over the past three years has assisted him to improve as an Elite Panel umpire, he instead aimed his finger at the prominent members of the Indian team. Menon stated in a conversation with PTI that refereeing international games has been simpler after being under constant strain during the India contests at home, prior to his first appearance in the Ashes series the following month.
"When India plays in India there is a lot of hype, a lot of big stars in the Indian team they always try to create pressure on you, they always try to get those 50-50 decisions in favour of them but if we are in control of ourselves under pressure, then we don't focus on what they are trying to do," he said. "It just shows that I am strong enough to handle any situation rather than getting worked up by the pressure created by players. That has given me a lot of self-confidence,” Menon stated speaking to PTI.
Here are some of the humorous tweets from the fans following his interview:
Menon will take the field in the third Test of the five-game Ashes series, and with his previous stint as an umpire in England last year, he is familiar with the conditions.
"It will be a great series. I was there last year in England when they hosted South Africa. I could actually see what 'Bazball' is. So I know what to expect. Australia have a fantastic bowling line up and the England the way they are playing are redefining test cricket,” Menon concluded.
