Ab de Villiers last played for Bangalore in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League. On 19th November 2021, he announced his retirement from all forms of the game. The South African wasn’t seen wearing Bangalore jersey this year.
However, in 2023 edition, he is expected to be part of the side in some capacity. His role for the team, though, is yet to be revealed. AB de Villiers was one of the biggest match-winners for the franchise in the history of the league.
He has played the second most number of matches for Bangalore after Virat Kohli in the cash-rich league. The South African cricketer scored 4522 runs in 157 matches at an average and strike rate of 41.10 and 158.33 respectively.
Overall, he is the second highest run-scorer for the franchise in the league’s history. De Villiers wasn’t part of the team last year. However, despite his absence, they performed admirably and reached the knockouts for the second consecutive occasion.
Though, they couldn’t reach the final as Faf du Plessis and Co. went down to Kolkata in the Eliminator clash. Ahead of the next edition of the tournament, Bangalore would be keen to go all the way and win the title.
