For the first time in the ongoing calendar year, the India A team will be playing a competitive game in September. The last time they played a competitive game was the unofficial Tests last year in South Africa. Now, the Indian Cricket Board is looking to resume its A program by hosting New Zealand. The series will consist of three four-day games and as many List A games.
All of these games will be played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Notably, the Indian Cricket Board is looking to host a pink-ball game but the final call is yet to be made. The Kiwis played a pink-ball game on their last tour of India in 2017-18. However, the match was played in the daytime in Vijayawada. The upcoming series is expected to clash with Duleep Trophy, which is a Zonal first-class competition.
The competition will mark the start of the Indian domestic cricket competition for the season 2022-23. The six-team tournament will be played from September 8 to 25 in Chennai and Coimbatore. The tournament has been re-introduced after a gap of three years. Teams from six zones such as — South, north, east, west, and central with the northeast being the new addition.
Indian Cricket Board is also in negotiations with Cricket Australia
On the other hand, the Indian Cricket Board is also in negotiations with the CA. The A series between the two teams is expected to be played in November this year. It is also expected that the series will be played before the start of the Ranji Trophy and India's series against Bangladesh. For the unversed, the World Number Two Test side will play a two-match Test series against Bangla Tigers in their backyard. The series will be part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle 2021-23.
After this, India will play their last series of the WTC cycle against Australia in February-March next year. The series will consist of four games. The 2021 finalists will be looking to win all their games.
