Nick Kyrgios has been in tremendous form of late. The controversial Australian has won 15 out of the last 16 matches. The Canberra star locked horns with Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals of the ATP Montreal Masters. In what was a spine-tingling match, the Polish eighth seed reigned over the Australian, ending his nine-match winning streak.

The legendary Australian faced issues with his leg in the middle of the match. And this added to the misery, as he lost the third set only to lose the match. Both players were at their best and niether of them looked like giving up in the first set. The first set was too competitive that it went into a tie-breaker. Facing the Australian's aggression, Hurkacz stood his ground and reigned over the former to win the first set in a tie-breaker.

Kyrgios, the known heavy competitor, fired back at Hurkacz in an intense second-set battle. With all grit and gut, the Australian pushed the second set to a tie-breaker. Having given his best, Kyrgios clinched the second set in the end.

The Polish eighth seed was too good for the Canberra-born star as the former clinched the third set 6-1. It was a dominant third set that clinched the match and sealed the semi-finals for the Wroclaw-born athlete.

Hurkacz won the match 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 6-1. The Polish eighth seed will face Norway's Casper Ruud in the semi-finals of the ATP Montreal Masters. The duo had faced earlier in May and the latter reigned over the former.

The Wroclaw star will look to avenge the fourth seed for the same. There were as many as thirty-nine aces in the match out of which the eighth seed accounted for 20 of them. Hurkacz did not shy away from appreciating his opponent after the match.

The Polish Tennis star added that Kyrgios has been brilliant over the past few weeks. "Over the last two months, Nick has been playing incredibly. The first two sets were pretty level but in the third maybe he was a bit injured and that hurt his serve. We were both serving well so the percentages were small. The level of competition is really high. There's little difference between players ranked 10 and 40. Every match is 50-50," Hurcakz was quoted as saying.
