Before the beginning of this year’s Pro Kabaddi League, Pawan Sehrawat became the highest-ever buy in the history of the tournament. Tamil Thalaivas bought him for a whopping amount of Rs 2.26 crore. Previously he played for the Bengaluru Bulls and Pawan has been the best raider for the last three years.
But, in the opening fixture against Gujarat Giants, the raider suffered an injury. He picked up a knee injury in the 10th minute of that clash. Now, Pawan Sehrawat came up with the impact of this league on emerging Kabaddi players.
"Playing Kabaddi has now become an accepted profession” - Pawan Sehrawat
Pawan Sehrawat said that people have adapted Kabaddi now after the introduction of this league. He said: “People know kabaddi now thanks to how it has adapted to be seen and loved by many. This was a sport played on mud first, now PKL has taken the game to another level.
“With the sport being on broadcast, players like me are getting financially independent, recognised, our fitness levels are growing due to the nature of the sport and league. Our motivation is to do well season to season at the league. Kabaddi has been a sport everyone has played but to think that for this sport to make an athlete economically independent has been made possible through the Pro Kabaddi League.” the raider added.
“Players are now getting a chance to work with brands. Small children are now joining academies across the country. The league has played a big role in showcasing the sport in this way and in turn taking it from the roots of India and growing it worldwide. Playing Kabaddi has now become an accepted profession and when I say I play at the Pro Kabaddi League I feel proud," Pawan Sehrawat concluded. Speaking of his horrible injury, Chandran Ranjit, the Gujarat Giants skipper, came on to raid. Sahil went after Chandran's upper body and Pawan went to attempt an ankle hold. But, during that attempt, Pawan twisted his knee. He collapsed on the mat as Pawan’s knee and ankle gave away. Meanwhile, medical staff rushed to him and they took away Pawan after strapping him onto a stretcher.
