In a delightful piece of news for New Zealand, the veteran pacer Tim Southee is now fit to be a part of the squad ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, in India. Southee’s inclusion was under the scanner when his right thumb got broken and dislocated while fielding in the fourth and last ODI four-match series against England.
The 34-year-old will depart to India on Saturday, 30th September; the Kiwi management is quite relieved and hopeful as they are expecting Southee’s complete recovery before their tournament opener against the defending champions, England. Notably, the finalists of the ODI World Cup 2019 will lock horns in the inaugural clash of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, October 5.
"Tim Southee's been cleared to join the BLACKCAPS in India later this week as he continues to progress his recovery from surgery on his fractured right thumb," said New Zealand Cricket in their official statement.
