Joe Root, a star player for England in one-day cricket, has cancelled any retirement plans and intends to compete during the 2027 ODI World Cup. The batter from Yorkshire wants to see the Three Lions pick up another victory and make significant progress reaching the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinals.

Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, as well as Mark Wood, for instance, are already past their prime and are quite unlikely to participate in the next World Cup. However, England still has a strong pipeline of white-ball athletes and might be at the top in four years.

Here is what Root said before playing Afghanistan in Delhi, as cited by BBC Sport, "I'd love to still be playing in four years' time."

In the current ODI World Cup 2023, the right-hander emphasised the need for being versatile. He was citing how effectively England recovered versus Bangladesh when New Zealand defeated them.

The 2019 World Cup winner added, "Every team in this tournament poses slightly different threats. We've got to be really adaptable to be able to combat that. We've just got to look to keep getting better. We weren't where we wanted to be in the first game but we were considerably better in the last game against Bangladesh."

Root continued, saying that England wants to gain momentum: He said, "This is another opportunity for us to take another big stride forwards and keep building that momentum towards the business end of this tournament, and making sure we are where we need to be by the back end."

All good signs ahead of tomorrow : Joe Root

England were without the services of one of their mainstays in the playing XI. Ben Stokes has missed the first two games of his side’s ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

Joe Root also spoke about the availability of two crucial veteran players. He said, "Woakesy is on the bus today which is a great sign. Ben seems to be getting better day by day. He trained really well last night. He had a bat and seems to be improving. All good signs ahead of tomorrow."
