Yuvraj Singh, the former all-rounder for India, is optimistic that opener Shubman Gill will recover in time for Saturday's pivotal 2023 World Cup match against Pakistan at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium. Yuvraj said that he made an effort to uplift Gill by pointing out to him that he participated in the 2011 World Cup whilst battling cancer.

Gill's tutor, Yuvraj, has been instrumental in his climb to prominence in international cricket. Due to sickness, the latter missed India's first two World Cup games against Australia and Afghanistan. While he has arrived in Ahmedabad, the site of Saturday's match between India and Pakistan, it is unclear if he will play.

Yuvraj disclosed to ANI that he told Gill about his experience playing cricket in 2011 whilst having cancer. He said, "Shubham Gill ko maine tagda kar diya hai [I have strengthened Shubham Gill]. I told him that I had played in the World Cup while battling cancer, so I got ready quickly to join the team. Hopefully, he will be ready for the India vs Pakistan game."

He added, “When you have a fever and dengue, it is really tough to play a cricket match, and I have experienced that. So I hope that if he is fit, then he will definitely play.”

When India won the World Cup in 2011, Yuvraj became the Player of the Tournament after hitting 362 runs and taking 15 wickets using his left-arm spin.

“At the moment both teams are high on confidence” : Yuvraj Singh

Regardless of Gill's availability for Saturday's ODI World Cup 2023 match, there is a lot of buzz around one of sports' greatest rivals. When asked about the India-Pakistan match, Yuvraj responded that he anticipated a thrilling contest because both sides are in excellent shape

The former all-rounder added, "India is already confident because they have beaten Australia and Afghanistan. It was a brilliant hundred from Rohit Sharma. I think at the moment both teams are high on confidence, and it should be a cracker of a game. Mohammad Rizwan is in great form. Both teams have outstanding games. Especially for Pakistan, they chased 300-plus runs against Sri Lanka, so it will give them a lot of confidence."
