Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh believes that star India opener Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best batter of this generation. The legendary all-rounder has been tracking Gill's performance since the early days of the right-hander's career. He pointed out that the 24-year-old is a really hard worker and has always displayed the attitude of a great player.

Notably, Gill has been in blistering form across all formats this year and is considered India's X-factor in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Especially in ODI cricket, Gill has been tremendous in 2023, scoring 1230 runs in 20 matches at an average of 72.35 in 2023. He has five centuries and five half-centuries to his name, with a highest score of 208 - the ninth-best individual score in ODIs.

"Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. The guy works hard. Since he was 19-20, his attitude has always been like that. He works four times harder than a normal guy since he was a kid. Whatever I have worked with him, he can be the player of this era."

"He (Gill) scored 91 in a Test match which India won. He scored two fifties as well on his first tour to Australia which I don't know how many players have done. I am sure he will score runs in Australia, South Africa as well as England."

Gill can be a game-changer for India in the World Cup: Yuvraj 

Gill had a poor outing in the 2023 tour of the West Indies, but the Punjab-born cricketer soon found his groove in the recently concluded Asia Cup, where he became the highest run-scorer. He also performed exceptionally well in the recent home series against Australia, winning the Player of the Series. As India begins their journey in the 2023 ODI World Cup against Australia on October 8, Gill's form will be crucial for the Men in Blue.

Meanwhile, Yuvraj pointed out that Gill's fearless batting can be a game-changer for the hosts in the marquee event. "He (Gill) is in such a stage right now that he is fearless. He can be a game-changer for India in the World Cup. He opened up the game against Pakistan and put the bowlers under pressure."
