Five-time ODI World Cup winners Australia will enter the 13th edition of the prestigious event on a disappointing note. The Men in Yellow suffered their fifth successive ODI defeat, the latest coming against India in the second ODI in a most humiliating fashion. Coming on the back of losing the five-match series against South Africa, the Kangaroos suffered the same fate, losing the three-match series 2–0 to India.

Australia were demolished by 99 runs in a rain-curtailed encounter in Indore on Sunday. After being asked to bat first, the Men in Blue set a humongous target of 400 - their highest ODI total against Australia - after blazing centuries from Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill alongside half-centuries from KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav. The Steve Smith-led side conceded their fourth-highest ODI total. Cameron Green recorded the third most expensive ODI spells for Australia (2/103), while Sean Abbott also had a bad day at the office, conceding 91 runs for one wicket in his 10 overs.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, right-arm medium pacer Abbott admitted that the Australian bowling attack, including himself, failed to execute well and put pressure on the Indian batters. "It's not surprising … if you don't execute like we did today and last game, they're just going to dine out and we're not putting them under much pressure. It's disappointing, especially from my end. I'd had a poor Powerplay (after) a pretty good Powerplay last game," he said.

I'm confident we can turn that around pretty quickly: Sean Abbott

Australia are considered one of the favourites to win the upcoming ODI World Cup. However, looking at their recent performances in the 50-over format, it will be a question whether they can find success in the marquee event. Speaking about the same, Abbott feels Australia are doing some things right and they can turn things around quickly.

"I feel like I've made some of the same mistakes a couple of games in a row now. But I still feel like my game is in a good place and going in the right direction, I've just got to get out there and do it, and I know a couple of other guys feel the same. We're doing some right things moving into the World Cup, we just haven't put them out there on the park yet so I'm confident we can turn that around pretty quickly," the 31-year-old added.
