The Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka has come up with a big statement while talking about India’s chances in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. This statement from Shanaka has come just ahead of the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Both teams will be taking each other in the summit clash of the 16th edition of the continental championship. The lineups of both teams have already been decided for the title clash. Earlier, it was Rohit Sharma’s India, which emerged victorious by 41 runs in the super-4 fixture against the hosts, Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Shanaka spoke to the media on the eve of the Asia Cup 2023 final, where he also discussed the wickets of India for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 starting next month.

"I do not think there is something like an advantage or disadvantage. Once you get to India, you know how batting-friendly wickets are. There is a good chance for all the teams. India got a better chance because they know the conditions well, and the calibre of players is also good. We have a good batting line-up. There are also quality spinners on our side. I think pitches will be a challenge. Bowling will be a challenge. The margin of error is very low. We need to execute really well,” said Shanaka to the journalists in Colombo.

"It is about the process to which we need to stick." - Dasun Shanaka

Shanaka also spoke about some Sri Lankan players who had featured in the Indian Premier League and the benefit of their experience to the side in the World Cup in India.

"I think we have players of that calibre who can play IPL. I am looking forward to it in the coming years,” he said.

Apart from this, the journalists also asked the Islanders’ skipper about the chances of Sri Lanka and India to play the final against each other once again after 12 years since the 2011 World Cup final.

“It is not about the final. It is about the process to which we need to stick even here in the Asia Cup. We came without our key players but still made it to the final. If we stick to the process, we have a great chance to make the final,” said Shanaka
