Khan then entered politics and founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party in 1996. He became the Prime Minister of Pakistan in 2018 after his party won a majority in the general election.

The Al-Qadir Trust Case is one of several corruption cases against Khan and his allies. The opposition parties have accused Khan of using his position to enrich himself and his friends.
