While most players get haircuts and hair stylings to get a whole new look ahead of major tournaments, Mohammed Shami also decided to join the trend, but not in any of the ways mentioned earlier. Ahead of the 2023 Asia Cup, the veteran India pacer underwent hair transplant surgery, which he claimed was a success.

Cricketers undergoing hair transplants is not new as former India captain MS Dhoni and former India openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir have also reportedly done transformations to their appearance. Interestingly, Shami's decision to undergo a hair transplant comes 23 months after teammate Rishabh Pant trolled him on his birthday (September 3) for his hair loss problem.

Notably, the 32-year-old had a visible receding hairline during the early days of his career. Eugenix Hair Sciences, the facility where Shami opted for his hair treatment, has claimed that it has successfully completed the hair transplant surgery. The clinic had taken to their social media handle to confirm that Shami had completed his hair transplant procedure.

"Overall, I felt really good because treatment is one thing, but the behaviour of the staff and the treatment process – everything was very good and all of them were very supportive. Now, let’s observe what happens," the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer said in a YouTube video uploaded by the hair transplant clinic.

Shami to play a key role in India's 2023 Asia Cup campaign

One of India's first-choice pacers in 50-over cricket, Shami is likely to be in the mix throughout the Asia Cup 2023 campaign. With the return of Jasprit Bumrah and the addition of Mohammad Siraj to the list, the Indian pace attack will be fired up. The Men in Blue begin their campaign with a blockbuster clash against Pakistan in Kandy on September 2.

India squad for Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
