India have gotten a brilliant and fiery start in the ongoing super-4 clash against the arch-rivals, Pakistan. The opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter Shubman Gill have smashed the mighty bowling attack of Pakistan in all corners of the ground. Meanwhile, the men in green are also facing one of their old troubles and that is their below-par fielding.
It was seen primely at the moment the ball took the leading edge of Shubman Gill’s bat in the early over of the first innings, but there was no attempt of catch from the Pakistan fielders in the slip cordon. It gave a life to Gill and he went on to score his half-century.
Notably, the Indian batters have come up completely prepared to take on the strong pace attack of Pakistan which troubled them in the last clash in Kandy last week.
India dominated Pakistan bowlers in the powerplay to get a fiery start
In the ongoing super-4 fixture at R Premadasa Stadium under overcast conditions, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the flip of the coin and asked the men in blue to bat first. Rohit and Gill came up with the eyes set on against Pakistan's strike bowlers, including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Faheem Ashraf.
India have scored 118 runs for no loss in 16 overs at the moment, having Rohit and Gil there in the middle on the individual scores of 56 and 55 runs, respectively. The opponent skipper Babar Azam has used his bowlers in just 16 overs of the first innings, out of them no one has successfully scalped a wicket.
This match is going to be very crucial for both the teams to keep their momentum going in the tournament making their spot confirmed in the final of the game. Pakistan are coming off with a 7-wicket win in their first super-4 match against Bangladesh in Colombo. But the fielding flaws have come up as a big concern for the World’s No. 1 ODI side.
Here’s how fans reacted to Pakistan’s poor fielding in the super-4 match against India:

that wasn't even a "drop catch," it was more like a "no catch attempt!" The fielders were like, "Nah, we're good, let it go." 😂
