Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made a big statement on batting in the Indian conditions in comparison to overseas conditions. This statement from Rohit has come just a day before the start of the Asia Cup 2023, which is set to kick off tomorrow on Wednesday, August 30.

India will start their run in the tournament with their campaign opener against the arch-rivals, Pakistan on Saturday, September 2 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Just before the start of the continental championship, the men in blue have faced a big blow as the star wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul is set to miss the first two matches against Pakistan and the new entrants Nepal.

That is how I think but different players will have different thought processes: Rohit Sharma

Notably, there has been a lot of debate among cricket experts on the question of batting in the Indian conditions and overseas conditions. A lot of experts have said that the Indian conditions mostly favour the spin bowlers and the batters in comparison to the pace-friendly surfaces of the SENA countries or other countries.

“Look at my recent Test innings in India. I can tell you that batting in India is much more difficult now than batting overseas, especially in the last 2-3 years. The pitches that we have played on, it is more challenging than overseas. That’s why we haven’t spoken about runs and averages of the batting unit,” said Rohit Sharma during an exclusive interview with PTI.

“That is how I think but different players will have different thought processes, and I don’t want to change that. I am going to play on pitches that suit our bowlers,” he added.

Apart from that, the 36-year-old also spoke about compromising at any point while batting in a couple of assignments for India. “My career strike rate is around 90 (89.97) but in the past couple of years, if you look at my scores and take the strike rate into consideration, it has been around 105-110. So somewhere you had to compromise. It is not possible to have a 55 average and a 110 strike rate,” he said.
