Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the ATP event in Montreal. The event will get underway next week, ahead of the US Open. The tennis star hasn’t played any tournament after the abdominal tear he suffered during the Wimbledon knockouts.  The world No 3 player took to Twitter to announce his withdrawal from the tournament.

He started by informing, “From the vacation days and my subsequent return to training, everything has gone well these weeks. Four days ago I also started training the service and yesterday, after training, I had a little discomfort that was still there today.”

While the Tennis star didn’t list this injury as his specific reason for withdrawing from the tournament, he noted that he still experienced “a little discomfort” this week during his training sessions. As the final major tournament was just weeks away, Nadal and his team decided that it was best for him to sit out of the Montreal tournament.

“I hope to play again in Montreal, a tournament that I love and that I have won five times in front of an audience that has always welcomed me with great affection. I have no choice but to be prudent at this point and think about health”, he concluded.

Additionally, Nadal also didn’t mention whether he intends to still play in the U.S. Open or not. The 22-time Grand Slam champion won the first two majors of the year, the Australian Open and the French Open, helping him earn the most Grand Slam titles in men’s tennis history.

Notably, the King of Clay won his 14th Roland Garros this year, extending his record to 22 Grand Slam titles. During his Wimbledon 2022 campaign, he reached the semifinal but pulled out due to an abdominal strain ahead of his semifinal clash against Nick Kyrgios.

Nadal is a five-time winner in Montreal. He has been ranked world No. 1 for 209 weeks and has finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. Nadal is only the second player to complete the Career Golden Slam in singles.
