Ravichandran Ashwin continues his dominance against Australia, shatters Anil Kumble and Kapil Dev's records

Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin had a redemption in One Day Internationals. Called for national duty just weeks before the ODI World Cup 2023, Ashwin has been phenomenal against Australia. In the three-match series, he has been the best bowler for India. He has taken four wickets in two games with an economy rate of less than 5.20.

In the second game of the series, he took three important wickets and changed the momentum of the game. However, riding on his bowling pole, Ashwin also surpassed legendary spinner Anil Kumble's records against Australia. Ashwin became the Indian bowler with the most wickets against a single team. Ashwin has overall 144 wickets against Australia in international cricket, while Kumble has 142. The third one on the list is legendary all-rounder and former India skipper Kapil Dev, with 141 wickets against Pakistan.

With these amazing bowling performances against the mighty Aussies, Ashwin would hope that team management picks him for the upcoming ODI World Cup. All-rounder Axar Patel's injury is making a place in the team. India might announce their revised World Cup squad by September 28, as that is the deadline for the selection.

"You can't think too much", says Aaron Finch of Ashwin's potential inclusion

Despite Ravichandran Ashwin's amazing performance against Australia, former Aussie skipper Aaron Finch believes that his selection is not certain. "I think that depends on how they think the surfaces are going to play throughout the country, and by that time, I think the skill in picking a squad for the World Cup is that you have to think of the back end. But you can't think too much about it because you have to get there," Finch said on Star Sports.

"I think he might struggle to make it to the final 15, but as somebody who has played so much cricket, I think the rest of the group that is with the Indian team for this current series against Australia could learn so much about big gameplay. Ashwin is somebody who stands up in big games, whether it's a test match or a T20 game, and he has done it all throughout his career. So I wouldn't be surprised if he's there at the moment as a mentor around the group, but I don't see him making that last 15, unfortunately," he added. It's worth noting that India will face Australia in the 3rd ODI on September 27.
