Star all-rounder Axar Patel's participation in the upcoming ODI World Cup is still in jeopardy as he is yet to recover from injury. The Indian team management was waiting for him to recover from his thigh injury ahead of the tournament. He was also named in the squad for the ongoing Australian series. However, recent news reports reveal that Axar has been ruled out of the last game against Australia as he has yet to gain full fitness.

It came as a shocker for fans and cricket experts as team management heavily backed Axar as the third spinner in the last few months. His omission from the Australia series might rule him out of the ODI World Cup. Which surely will hamper India's preparations and plans for the marquee event. However, a news report also revealed that Axar might be fully fit for warm-up matches, which are scheduled to start on September 30.

But it doesn't seem that team management will take a risk with a half-fit player for the prestigious tournament. Meanwhile, ace India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has performed exceptionally well with the ball against Australia in the last two games. His performance might force team management to pick him as Axar's replacement for the tournament. Ashwin's inclusion will bring variety and experience to the spin bowling team.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to make a comeback

In the third ODI game against Australia, India skipper Rohit Sharma, batter Virat Kohli, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are set to make a comeback. They will play the game to get a match time before the start of the prestigious tournament. However, it's reported that openers Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, and Shardul Thakur will make way for them in the playing XI.

Gill and Shardul are likely to rest while Ruturaj will fly to China. He will participate in the ongoing Asian Games 2022 in China while leading the squad for the first time. It's worth noting that India will start their World Cup campaign against Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After that, the team will face Afghanistan and Pakistan in Delhi and Ahmedabad, respectively.
