Since November last year, a lot of players have led the India Cricket Team. From Ajinkya Rahane to Hardik Pandya, numerous players have led the team across formats. There are many reasons for that. Thanks to the busy schedule, players have been rested from a few series. Some of the senior players were rested during the series against Ireland and in the ODI series against West Indies.
Meanwhile, regular skipper Rohit Sharma has said that it is important to have captaincy options. He pointed out that with 10 teams in the Indian T20 League, there will be a time in Indian Cricket when the team will have 10 captains in the team. The right-hander added that having multiple captains in the team makes his job easier as the players understand their roles very well.
“I think it's very important to have that leadership, but obviously, you know we play the ITL and it's a 10- team tournament. So there will be 10 captains which at some stage will be a part of the Indian team as well," Rohit said on Star Sports' show "Follow The Blues".
"You know, I think it's fantastic because honestly my job is much lesser as these guys understand everything pretty well. So, it's just about if someone's having a thought, how am I going to backup that thought. For me as captain that is my role and that is what I'm trying to do,” he added.
When asked about leading a lot of young leaders, the Mumbaikar said that it is exciting to see so many leaders around the team. He also said that the team needs players to handle pressure and understand each other very well.
“I know it's very exciting honestly to create so many leaders around the team because it's always a good sign. And you want the guys to handle the pressure, who understand the game and know each other really well. And when they are leading the team, all these things can happen.”
