Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has created history as he becomes the first player from his country to win the Diamond League. He had qualified for the final after finishing first in the Diamond League in Lausanne's leg and second in Stockholm's leg. Talking about the final, he threw 88.44m away. Notably, the final didn't have players such as Anderson Peters (due to injury) and Arshad Nadeem (due to not having enough points).

In the final, the Tokyo Olympics Gold medalist started with a foul. However, he made a strong comeback in the second attempt. His second attempt's throw turned out to be trophy-winning although he had to wait for confirmation. Even though Chopra didn't have strong opponents, he still got good competition. Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch came close with a throw of 86.94m and he finished second.

Germany's Julian Weber finished third, with a best throw of 83.73m. Just like most of the events, he was confident of winning after one of his attempts. After the second attempt, he looked confident about winning the title. He followed that up with throws of 88.00m, 86.11m, 87.00m, and 83.60m. His victory has come after he made his comeback from injury. Due to the injury, he missed out on the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

It was a good competition with Jakub Vadlejch: Neeraj Chopra

After winning the title, the 23-year-old praised Jakub and pointed out that the latter's throw was nice. Chopra added that he was expecting that his Czech Republic to throw 90 metres.

“It was a very good competition with Jakub Vadlejch today, he threw also very nice. I expected 90m from me today. But it is OK, I have the diamond trophy and this was the most important thing for me. Also because my family is here,” Neeraj said.

“First time, they are at an international competition. They came to see me as this is my last competition and we go for a holiday – France, Paris, so it will be good.

“I was injured after Eugene so I need some rest, 2-3 weeks and I start some rehab and then some training for next year.”
