Neeraj Chopra was ruled out of the Commonwealth Games 2022 due to an injury last month. This was a massive blow for the Indian contingent in the multi-sport event. Now, he has made a massive comeback in the Lausanne Diamond League Meet. It was business as usual for the Indian Army Subedar. The 23-year-old won the final after an 89.08m throw.

Notably, he achieved the distance in his first attempt. This eventually proved to be a match-winning distance. The 2021 Olympic Gold medalist uploaded the video of the same on Twitter. He captioned “First @Diamond_League win Great night at @athletissima in Lausanne and happy to receive so much support from the stands. Next stop @WeltklasseZH”

Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian to win the event

The star Javelin player has become the first Indian to win the event. Talking about his performance in the Diamond League final, his second attempt throw was 85.18m. In the third and fourth attempts, he skipped and fouled respectively. However, he was so ahead of his competitors that it didn't matter in the end.

After the win, Chopra said that he is delighted with the results and is pleased to come back from the injury. He added that he was nervous as he was coming back after the injury.

“I am delighted with my result tonight. 89m is a great performance. I am especially pleased as I am coming back from an injury and tonight was a good indicator that I have recovered well. I had to skip Commonwealth Games due to injury and I was a bit nervous. Tonight has given me a lot of confidence to finish the season on a high, with a strong performance in Zurich DL Final.” Neeraj Chopra concluded.
